Treatments for COVID-19 (May 2020 update)
Just what is COVID-19 first and foremost?
So this COVID-19 is not altogether new but it has been on the top of all of our minds these days unless we live under a rock. It all started one country and has escalated to most all other ones taking down the lives of many. The symptoms you experience could range from having a cough that suddenely popped up recently, a fever, a sore throat, a headache, any breathing problems, and maybe more. You should immediately call your general practitioner if you experience a few of these together or all of them at the utmost shortest time point after symptoms appear. Do not go anywhere other than your home before getting tested. You might be risking others lives in the process.
Have there been any recoveries since it started?
It has of course had some positive recoveries as well. This might stem from the treatments out there that are available to help. These treatments are detrimental to our health and must be used in order to make ourselves well again if we happen to get sick from COVID-19. The possibility is high for some of us so we should seek out the treatments so it is somewhat easier to be aware of the way we are treated by medical staff. Chloroquine and Zithromax (Azithromycin) are said to be two of the options for this treatment but there is little information about those drugs to be found yet as they are probably stil being tested. Then there are people who say there are no medicine or treatments for it, just things to control it before it reaches the end of a two week period and you're still alive to tell about it if you're lucky.
What else is available?
You can do some of the well known home remedies if you are in quarantine at other than the hospital as far as recovery. If your throat is hurting as one of the symptoms, you can take hot showers to help with that. Things like using a humidifier in the room you're most in (or at night when you're sleeping especially) are also good to know. These lovely contraptions have a way to keep your throat moist so the dryness doesn't hurt your throat further and make it more difficult to repair after getting such a throat ailment. You can take some honey and lemon as well as teas. Warm liquids help for throat problems if you have Coronavirus. Keeping yourself warm under the blankets or wearing warm clothes helps. As does just getting plenty of sleep because the body heals itself while we are sleeping. If we deprive ourselves of such sleep then we will be suseptible of more illness and less healing. Breathing problems can be severe however, so if you need to be hospitalized and on a ventilator then so be it. You will recover and be alive to tell about the experience. And that's always a good thing.
Erectile dysfunction in South Africa
In the last decades, the treatment of erectile dysfunction underwent major advancements because medication has been developed to target the specific symptoms of this sexual disorder. Before this breakthrough, erectile dysfunction (ED) was largely undiagnosed in South Africa (SA) and did not receive the adequate attention of the medical community. It was thought that ED is mostly a psychological problem, which is partially true. However, some men who have erectile problems may need medication to support their sexual life. The treatments for ED can be classified in two groups, which include the psychological therapies and the drug interventions. In many cases, a man is able to restore his ability to perform sexually on his own, using several mental techniques and psychotherapy implemented by certified therapists. Still, a large number of patients need medication, at least in the initial stages of the treatment, which boosts their confidence in their sexual capacity and helps strengthen their sex drive.
Erectile dysfunction is still misdiagnosed and overlooked by medical experts because many men hesitate to discuss their sexual life with a physician. Shyness, low self-esteem, negative thoughts and anxiety - all play roles in the decision of some men to suffer in silence and keep their sexual problems to themselves. However, there comes a time when their relationships or families become severely damaged by their low self-confidence and impaired sexual abilities, which is when many decide to engage in some sort of therapy.
What can be done for a men afflicted by the consequences of erectile dysfunction?
A special category of drugs has been developed by pharmacists and laboratory experts, which successfully facilitates the normal mechanisms that lead to a full erection. These drugs are called PDE5 inhibitors, which is a name derivative from their ability to block the enzyme called type 5 phosphodiesterase. This enzyme appears to have “destructive” properties when it comes to achieving an erection because it annihilates cyclic GMP, which is the main “messenger” that signals to the blood vessels to dilate. This process of dilation is what allows the cavernous bodies to increase their volume through an enhanced blood entry in the penis. Blocking the PDE5 enzyme leads to an increased availability of cGMP in the blood vessels, which significantly increases the capacity to achieve an erection. Examples of PDE5 blockers are Stendra (Avanafil), Cialis (Tadalafil) or Viagra (Sildenafil). In cases when ED is accompanied by premature ejaculation, a combination of a PDE5 inhibitor and Priligy (Dapoxetine) can be employed to delay the culmination of the sexual act. Even though modern drugs are able to combat the effects of ED successfully and without significant adverse effects, the role of psychotherapy and family support is impossible to neglect. In fact, a combination of mental-strengthening techniques and ED drugs is the best way to cure erectile dysfunction.
